Celebrate and sparkle this Fourth of July holiday with food and fun in your own backyard.
Food:
A build your own burger bar guarantees everyone gets exactly what they want to eat.
Create a red, white, and blue cake using blueberries, strawberries and whipped cream in a flag pattern – that’ll make sure kids eat something besides sugar!
Who needs to sit at the table for a holiday meal?! Set out a blanket and have a backyard picnic.
Make homemade ice cream on the porch, or make easy popsicles using coffee cups and plastic spoons as molds.
Have everyone decorate their own cupcake with red, white, and blue frosting and plenty of sprinkles.
Frolic:
Instead of fireworks, pinwheels or ribbons are safe, colorful alternatives.
Decorate with battery-powered mini “candles” inside of paper bags that kids have decorated with stars and stripes – and lots of glitter!
Create some Fourth of July trivia cards to test kids’ knowledge about early America, presidents, and history. Award prizes for the most correct answers.
Watch a history-themed or Independence Day-themed movie with the family, outside if the weather is nice.
Decorate everyone’s bike or wagon with red, white and blue streamers and tiny flags and parade around the neighborhood together! Add in decorating a t-shirt too, for a fun patriotic art project with less mess because it’s done outdoors!
Or volunteer as a family to do the lawn care of an elderly neighbor.
